Understanding the Four Components

  2. Ice – Apply cold therapy immediately to reduce inflammation and numb the area. Use a gel pack or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a thin cloth for 15–20 minutes every 2–3 hours.
  3. Compression – Use an elastic bandage or a compression sleeve to limit swelling and provide support. Ensure the wrap is snug but not so tight that it cuts off circulation.
  4. Elevation – Raise the injured part above heart level whenever possible. This helps drain fluid and reduces swelling.
