Switzerland Ohi Saabi: A Scenic Trek from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen

While Italy offered its famous art and cuisine, the highlight of the trip turned out to be the Swiss segment โ especially the unforgettable walk from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen. Why Wengen Was the Perfect Starting Point
Wengen, a carโfree village perched at 1,274 meters above sea level, is renowned for its pristine Alpine atmosphere. Everyone who came on this trip wanted to experience the traditional Swiss chalets, the fresh mountain air, and the iconic views of the Eiger, Mรถnch, and Jungfrau peaks. The villageโs easy access via the Wengernalp Railway made it an ideal launchpad for our dayโlong hike.
Planning the Walk: From Wengen to Lauterbrunnen
On a clear summer morning we decided to walk from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen. The trail is part of the famous WengenโLauterbrunnen route, a wellโmarked path that offers a mixture of gentle slopes and dramatic drops. Our itinerary included:
- Leaving Wengen at 9:00โฏam after a quick breakfast of fresh Swiss cheese and bread.
- Following the marked signs toward the GrindelwaldโLauterbrunnen railway line, which runs parallel to the trail.
- Stopping at the Mรคnnlichen viewpoint for panoramic photos of the valley.
- Reaching Lauterbrunnen by early afternoon, where the famous Staubbach Falls await.
Unbelievable Scenery Along the Way
Every step of the hike rewarded us with new vistas. The Alpine meadows burst with wildflowers, and the distant snowโcapped peaks glistened under the bright sun. The trailโs wooden bridges offered perfect spots to pause and admire the triple waterfall cascade that defines Lauterbrunnenโs landscape.
